The year is moving by fast and although things still seem uncertain, a positive, is that most of our team have now received their first dose of vaccine and we are Covid testing regularly, providing extra reassurance for everyone. Our main priority is keeping our staff and patients safe and our rigid processes and procedures introduced last summer remain firmly intact and are proving to be very successful.

We are constantly updating our social media pages with some helpful tips, so head over to @perfectsmileclinicltd and give us a follow to keep up to date with all that is happing here at Perfect Smile; like entering the Dentistry awards “best practice”category…..wish us luck!

This month we are highlighting our Implant treatments offered here in the practice. This means no travelling to another practice or being treated by an unfamiliar team; you have everything right here.

Here are a few of our most FAQ’s.

How do Dental Implants work?

A Dental Implant is an artificial tooth that a Dentist places into your jawbone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.

What can Implants do?

  • Replace one or more teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
  • Support a bridge, eliminating the need for a removeable denture.
  • Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
  • Look, feel and function just like natural teeth.

What is the process for placing a Dental Implants?

Any damaged tooth is removed, where necessary, where necessary, the jawbone is prepared (grafting). The implant is placed, and time allowed for bone growth and healing. Then finally the abutment is placed, and the artificial tooth is attached.

How long does it take to have a Dental Implant?

The implant needs to fuse with the jawbone to ensure long-term success. It takes around 4 months from the time of the implant being placed to the attachment of the artificial tooth.

Are Dental Implants painful?

This procedure, as any other oral surgical procedure, has some associated discomfort. However, most implant patients comment that they were surprised at how minimal and short the duration of discomfort was. There is generally no pain or discomfort in the long term.

Are Dental Implants safe?

The implant, and the artificial tooth itself, are 100% safe.

How much do Dental Implants cost?

Dental Implants start from £2500. This varies from patient to patient dependent on individual treatment needed, this will be determined and reviewed directly with you. Our Treatment Co-ordinator and Dental Implant Surgeons will give you a clear break down of the costs before your treatment starts, so you know exactly what you are paying and why.

Why are Dental Implants so expensive?

You are paying for specialist care, state of the art equipment and the use of world-leading Dental Laboratories.

Are Dental Implants right for me?

Dental Implants are an ideal option for those in good general health who have lost a tooth, or teeth. The best way to determine this, is to have a consultation with one of our specialists.

Reasons why I should not get a Dental Implant?

There are a few reasons why you may not immediately be a good candidate for dental implants:

  • Lack of sufficient bone and/or gum tissue to support the implants.
  • Age, if you are too young, the jawbone is not fully developed.
  • You have a medical condition that makes surgery too risky.
  • Pre-existing dental infections that can impact implant treatment.

When Dental Implants are not an option?

You may not be a good candidate now, however, there are treatments available that may help you to be in the future.

  • Bone grafting (which takes bone from another part of the body and uses it to build up jawbone density)
  • Gum augmentation, which is a similar process for building up gum tissue.

Some patients may not be able to undergo these procedures either, so in such cases, we offer other treatment options including bridges and removable treatments.

Can Dental Implants be removed?

Yes, although for it to be necessary the Implant must have failed.

Which Dental Implants are the best?

We use Straumann, a top Dental Implant company. The implants are made of titanium, this is the best dental material because it is biocompatible, this means it closely matches the human body.
